Rubix's 8th birthday party, Phoenix finishes up basketball

A couple of weeks ago on the first weekend of the month, the kids participated in the "last chance" meet for making the "age group champs" time cuts and Phoenix and Rubix participated in the All-Star Swim meet for PAC swim. Axel received a nice swim bag for Christmas, Phoenix received one for her birthday, so I only thought it was fitting that Rubix also receive one for his birthday. I had him open it early because I wanted him to have a bag to put his towels and belongings in because it was going to be yet another wet weekend with rain predicted both days. Rubix was hoping the gift was a toy, so initially he was a bit disappointed when it turned out to be a swim bag. Since the initial let down, he is very happy, because now he has a place to keep his towel and clothes dry.

On Tuesday, March 5th, Phoenix had her last basketball game. She managed to play 3 games the week before and they won all of them. Their tightest competition was planned for the 5th, and the girls came through with amazing defense and shut down their top shooters. The girls easily won with nearly a 10 point lead. Here is the winning 5th grade league champions, who were undefeated this season.
Phoenix had an impromptu recital hosted by her piano teacher on March 9th. She has been struggling to find time to practice or the desire to keep playing. She did really well, despite making a few minor mistakes. I was really proud of her because she kept going without showing her frustration. This is something that is not easy to do. She was pretty upset afterwards, but her brothers were able to cheer her up.

Here is the dynamic trio.
I know this is out of order, but on Friday Feb. 16th, the day after I posted last time, we hosted Tyler for a little birthday gathering. He has been going through a tough time, as has Mike, who joined us, so it was a fun couple of hours together. Tyler brought over the latest virtual reality device made by Apple to show Axel some of the applications his company is making. I kind of asked Tyler if he could have a mini internship for Axel this summer, but we will see if that actually happens this year. This is something that might be better next summer after sophmore year.
Rubix trying it out.
Old college buddies. How special to have Mike, Tyler and Keith together on a Friday at lunch!
Phoenix continues to love art and I have been more and more impressed with her creations. Here is one of my new favorites.
Here is a picture of the boys at the Last Chance Meet. This was one of the only times they were able to sit and it just happen to be during the short downpour. Rubix was able to get his 3rd time cut in the 50 fly, dropping an entire second and getting a 34.63. He is just .65 seconds from the Far Western cut.
The kids have had one virus after another. Phoenix's swim coach ordered her to have chicken noodle soup, lots of vitamin C and a multi-vitamin. I took my job as mom, seriously, and have made the changes, having all 3 kids take a multi-vitamin and get more Vit. C. I have also make more soups, including chicken noodle soup a number of times.
We had one evening over the past month where we were all home. To celebrate we watched videos of the 2024 swimming Worlds Championship and ate popcorn. Rubix certainly enjoyed making popcorn!
This Sunday we had Rubix's birthday party since we will be at Age Group Champs starting on his birthday, this Friday, March 15th. He decided to invite 3 swim friends and have somewhat of a swim/game theme. We had a blue table cloth and made blue and yellow cupcakes, that represent the Santa Clara Swim Club colors.

The boys played and played. First, the played 4 square....kind of.
Then they played with the launch rocket.
They were a bit more rough and silly than I anticipated, but we lucked out without any injuries.
Anay going up for a super big launch!
Ethan in the penalty box for tackling Anay for the rocket.
A close up of the cupcakes that Axel and I decorated.
The boys enjoyed hamburgers, hotdogs, sweet potato casserole and corn on the cob before diving into the cupcakes.
Here is Anay, Albert, Rubix and Ethan. Albert's sister is in Phoenix's swim group and she also came over for the party.
Phoenix and Alice had a wonderful time too.
After dinner the girls joined the boys for balloon basketball, which was very entertaining.

The boys finished up with several games of laser tag. Boy, did they have fun!
The fantastic four!
And just like that, our little one is 8 years old.....in 3 short days.

I wanted to get this out, but plan on posting again no later than the first week in April to capture the boys birthdays, Axel's first high school swim meet and more! Until then....much love!
